Submit a Conversation Prompt

By March 11, 2016

What we are looking for...

Off(Shore) is interested in inviting conversations around emerging currents in education, as experienced in cultural sites and public spaces. It speaks to issues that include intersections of sociology, education, cultural production, and political economy; the struggle over knowledge and other contemporary curriculum issues. If you are carrying out ongoing work or research, we would love for you to share a conversational prompt about it.

Who should submit a conversation prompt?

Any graduate student, inquisitive educator, community activist, or cultural worker, whose work within education poses questions about learning, curriculum, and knowledge is encouraged to submit a prompt. A conversation prompt can be of many formats, for example a paper presentation, performative act, or a visual proposal.

Why conversation prompts?

Instead of the usual conference format of only formalized readings of finished research papers, this program is designed as a place to present professional work that is still coming into form, in order to create a place to discuss, question, expand, stretch, and explore.

How complicated

is the process?

It could not be easier!  Just fill in a form and you will be contacted if your proposal has been selected! Apart from the regular personal details, you will need a brief bio statement (50 words),

a title and a description of your conversation prompt (100 words) to complete the form.

Have more materials you wish to share? If you have additional documents, images, or materials that you feel will help support our understanding of your conversation prompt, we welcome you to email them to us. However, this is completely optional and note required for participation as a presenter.

What happens

after I am selected?

You will be notified by Sunday, March 27, 2016 if your prompt has been selected.

If selected, you will be presenting your work-in-progress to a small group of guest facilitators, fellow presenters, and participants on Saturday, April 9, 2016. Your presentation should be planned to enable a conversation. As such, we recommend all presentations to be kept to 12 minutes at maximum. You will receive more details together with the confirmation email.
